A Few Words From Some of My Friends...

I worked with Liz Clibourne in Idweli, Tanzania on two projects. The first was the opening of Godfrey’s Children Center in May 2005. Liz was instrumental in preparing the Center to open and helped establish a nurturing environment for the 58 orphaned and vulnerable children who now call the Center their home. The second was a research project evaluating the effects of the Center on the children’s well-being. Liz provided information regarding the children’s health and school performance that she collected and observed during her volunteer stint in Idweli. Liz works hard and follows through with commitments.

Liz Clibourne worked as a volunteer for Africa Bridge in Tanzania from May to December, 2005.

She helped us to start and operate the Godfrey’s Children Center in the village of Idweli located in SW Tanzania. Liz is courageous, focused and committed to getting work done. Idweli is remote and a place where very little English is spoken. Despite the adversity, Liz helped us to establish a safe loving home for 50 orphan children between to ages of 4 and 16 and to start a pre-school for 70 children. She set high standards of hygiene and care, and set the expectations that all the children would attend school, do their homework and graduate to secondary school. In a 2006 study of the Center, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation the Center was found to be an island of excellence in terms of care provided to orphaned children. Much of the credit must go to Liz. The children sorely miss "Mama Liz".

My name is Carlee Kachman and I am a fourth year anthropology major sociology minor attending the University of Alberta in Canada . In the summer of 2005 I was privileged enough to work along side Liz Clibourne at Godfreys’ Children Center in Idweli , Tanzania . Her care and dedication to the children and the center resonated through her, and it inspired me every day to do more and more. We worked together to redecorate the center and make the walls into teaching tools to use while we taught pre-school together in the mornings. Liz has such a passion to see ideas come to life; it made the work really enjoyable, and often caused us to paint well into the early hours of the mornings! Our colors and designs caught the eyes of the other teachers working at the center, so we turned the mess hall into many class rooms with the same shapes, colors, numbers and labeled pictures for them to use for their classes.

Liz has so many great ideas and what separates her from the rest is her drive to make her ideas into reality sooner than later. Her hard working attitude mixed with her fun loving nature made her the perfect person to live and work in the center. The children loved her; she really was a parental figure in the lives of the 50+ children. She was the nurse they ran to if they had any health problems and the mother they ran to for comfort and help in difficult situations.

Liz Clibourne has proven to be a very trustworthy and hardworking individual, and a joy to be around. I cannot wait for the next opportunity we shall have to work along side each other again and make some more dreams into reality.

I have worked with Liz Clibourne RN for several years. In this time I have discovered that she is highly motivated, and is very capable to do what ever she sets her mind to do. There are few like her who are so interested in helping others. She gives her heart, mind and soul to this work. She only comes home to work for more money to use in this mission.

In addition she is a captivating speaker. She presented her work with the children of Africa orphaned by AIDS to the Sunday School children of my church. They sat completely enthralled….. and were so moved that several asked how they could do more to help.

I volunteered with Liz at Godfrey's Children Center in Idweli from September 2005 through December 2005. Liz has a solid work ethic, and even after her departure, continues to care for several villagers in Idweli. Liz is undeniably committed to improving the lives of the people in southwestern TZ, and I would not hesitate to support her.

I first met Liz in Ghana when she was sleeping and working out of the same small room beside the kitchen in an orphanage at Obuasi. It was hard not to fall in love with her spirit. The children were all attracted to her fun-loving, dependable, caring nature. She took care of them from sunrise to well after sunset as they would all congregate around her room non-stop basking in the attention that she gave them. She also had a great rapport with the local staff and community. Liz is fully devoted to her cause and puts her all into what she is doing.
