What Is Every Child Every Village?

Who We Are. Every Child Every Village is an organization born out of frustration with an education system that does not meet the needs of its kids. In addition to a struggling school system, it is hard for parents, undereducated and poor, to ensure a good education for their children. It's a vicious trickle down, and the kids, as usual, suffer the most. This gets worse with each new generation.

What Every Child Every Village proposes instead, is a positive trickle up. Help the current generation of children finish secondary school or beyond, so they can get better jobs and educate their kids. Unfortunately, the fact is the school system is faulty, and most kids are not prepared to pass the mandatory secondary school entrance exam. Each child is allowed only one attempt. No do-overs.

The mission for Every Child Every Village is to provide educational support inside and outside the schools to help all children get all the education they need. Our vision is to have these support programs in every village.

What We Do. Our main focus is to improve education by working within existing systems. One way to do this is to decorate pre-school walls with numbers, letters, shapes, colors and words, which decrease the ongoing need for renewable and expensive supplies. In a sense, we are creating "permanent books".

Another inexpensive but effective project is to create and staff remedial/homework centers where kids can go to get extra help in English, Math etc. In addition, we plan to have an afterschool homework time, and a small library. Just a little place where a kid can go everyday, where there is enough light to read and do homework.

Certainly there are other projects, but the essence of Every Child is to provide what most Western, first world kids have in their own homes. A comfortable and functional place to learn.

Why You Should Care. As director of Every Child Every Village, I personally would love it if everyone who reads this will care enough to give us money. But I'm a realist and I know that many of you have other important priorities. And that's OK.

Please consider this: ignorance begets ignorance. Orphans create more orphans. Poverty perpetuates poverty and a stable society is impossible under these conditions. Education reverses this.

If you believe as we do that the world is now a global village, then it follows that we are all responsible for each other, especially for the youngest of us who do not have the financial and parental support it takes to survive childhood and succeed as adults.

Asante sana.
